Hi! I recently read Alice-Miranda at School, by Jacqueline Harvey. This is definitely a good book, but a little bit for younger readers. The book is about Alice-Miranda Highton- Smith-Kennington-Jones, a seven year old who starts to go to a boarding school, Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale for Proper Young Ladies. Alice-Miranda, you see is very talkative and is quite concerned about the Headmistress, Ms. Grimm, after talking to Jacinta Headlington-Bear, a gymnast who says Ms. Grimm won't let her compete in the gymnastics competition unless she finishes a homework assignment. Alice-Miranda also had a chat the the cook, Mrs. Smith, who is longing for a holidays. Lastly, she discussed things Charlie, the gardener who was wanting to plant some flowers but Ms. Grimm said "NO!". Ms. Grimm hadn't been talked to for ten years, and Alice-Miranda had a little chat with her about holidays and etc.. Then, Alice-Miranda sends Mrs. Smith on a vacation, but without permission. Alice-Miranda gets on Ms. Grimm's nerves, and since Alice-Miranda is seven, and you normally start the school when you're eight, Ms.Grimm got a plan to get rid of her. So, Ms.Grimm said "If you're under eight you must do....".Ms. Grimm sets up three challenges for Alice-Miranda to do. If Alice-Miranda fails, she will be prohibited from the school. Did I mention the challenges were near to impossible? Along the way, Alice-Miranda meets friends, and enemies. You'll have to read the book to see if she fails, or not! On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this book a 7. Anyway, I hope this review was helpful! Happy Reading! Allzie C.
